FUTURE BETS
ERIC RAMOS GUERRERO
Artery Art Space is proud to present “Future Bets,” Eric Ramos Guerrero’s first solo show in Manila, drawing primarily on the theme of nature and the sublime across the landscape of the contemporary, he explores the figure as a nexus for critical reflection on the sovereignty of space, in the creation of identities globalized through media and information, and pondering consequently the role of entertainment and pleasure in the development of unique individualized experiences, all the more from the perspective of an activated flaneur in witness of our contested present with a stake on the future.
Eric Ramos Guerrero’s artistic practice is rooted in the landscapes of the US/ Mexican border and the tropical spaces of western expansion throughout the Pacific. The work is an investigation into trauma as it morphs into spectral horror. It is an examination of belief, superstition, and an assertion of self in a natural world. Through painting, drawing, sculpture, printed multiples, video and performance, Ramos Guerrero mines both the fluidity of multiculturalism, and the romanticism of the exotic to propose alternate histories and possible futures.
Guerrero graduated with an MFA from Columbia University NYC and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has shown internationally that includes The Drawing Center NYC, Project: ArtSpace NYC, International Print Center NYC, Dots Gallery, Belgrade, Serbia, Mathilde Hatzenberger Gallery, Brussels, Belgium, Beaux Arts, Paris, FR, Inside-Out Museum, Beijing, China, Pongnoi Art Space, Chiangmai, Thailand, amongst others. Eric is also an educator, teaching at Pratt College, Brooklyn, NY, Parsons School of Design, The New School, NYC, and Wesleyan University, CT. And on various opportunities, he spins records as a DJ mixing popular consciousness according to tunes related to longing, release, and action.
