KIM GACEJA

Used not abused, oil on canvas, 20 x 35 inches, 2017

Absence fills the space in Kim Gaceja’s paintings that express not just the passing of time, nor the things embodying the poetry of everyday life, equally, the aura essential to paint existence, but also acting perhaps as an invitation for discussion of an underlying social reality, on the economy of means, property, labor, of actions needed to lead life meaningful, to term the domestic and call it home.

What inspires me to make my art? Maybe the feeling of having a place where you would be accepted, like it didn’t care about what you do or who you are. Because here, you matter. It’s a sense of belonging.
